Statistical capacity building

Hallgrimur Snorrason has a special interest in statistical capacity building. He has been associated with such work in several newly emerging democracies and developing countries, i.e. the Baltic countries, Angola, Bolivia, Eritrea, Palestine, Egypt and Malawi. In the period July 2009 – January 2010 he was a leader of a team of experts carrying out an evaluation of the World Bank Trust Fund for Statistical Capacity Building.  He has organised conferences and workshops on official statistics and lectured at conferences and seminars in several countries on capacity building, organisation of statistical systems and offices, principles for official statistics and best practices in official statistics. Hallgrimur has been associated with review work of the statistical foundations in developing countries for measuring indicators for the Millennium Development Goals through a “friends-of-the-chair” group of the UN Statistical Commission and been a member of a similar UNSC group reviewing the International Price Comparison Program.
